Overview
The course serves as the bridge between the international relations and economics content of the course. To analyze the interactions and the dynamics of change both at a global as well as regional level we need to draw on the analytical tools of both international politics, international economic relations and economics. Following a critical presentation of the competing theoretical perspectives of IPE – realism, liberalism, constructivism – the course will focus on issues pertaining to the multidimensional relations between state and non-state actors and the challenges of a globalized economy where economic and political interests are intertwined. Themes examined include the global financial and monetary order in historical perspective, the international trade system, multinational corporations, developmental and environmental challenges.
