Overview
Over the past decades major international developments have profoundly affected the concept of national security that traditionally was associated with the threats emanating from rival state(s). The emergence of new security challenges such as terrorism, transnational crime networks, cyber and space security, has profoundly affected the international security environment and the concept of national security. Such security challenges have generated the need for a significant re-organisation and integration of security institutions and forces in order to improve coordination, efficiency and effectiveness while joint operations with assets from different agencies have become the norm. The course addresses such issues using the tools of economic analysis, examines the role of international cooperation and coordination in the production of the global public good of security.
